The boat’s 30ft LWL 25ft with 4000kg displacement. Maximum prop size is 13 in. Hull speed is about 7kts maximum. One engineer says I need to replace the old Watermota 33hp petrol engine with a minimum 28hp diesel. The other avers that a 16hp diesel will be right. Quite a gap in size and price! Cost is of course an issue, but so’s safety. Here’s the dilemma. Would anyone care to make observations?

I had always called these suicide trailers, but in fact they do greatly lower the center of gravity. Have to go from SC to FL. Have any experience with these strange trailers? Have a chance to buy boat and trailer but this poses the major question of safety.

I have 2 little kids (3 yr old and 1 yr old) and want to rent a boat for the day…. The boat will be about 20-25 feet long and while it is designed for water skiing, I will not be doing any waterskiing, but rather just boating around Marina Del Rey down to Orange Ccounty and so forth, on the ocean, but not if the water is rough.

What age is safe for kids to be on a boat like this. We wont be speeding but we wont be sailing. And an adult will be holding on to the one year old at all times?

Any other safety tips for a newbie would be most appreciated.

So I’m 16, just moved onto a lake with family, and got a boat for Christmas. Do I have to take Boaters Safety to operate it on the lake? Even if I don’t need it for the boat, would it be smart to invest in the classes, just to be safe, especially if I go to a friends house who may have a Jet Ski (PWC) And how difficult are the classes?

The scenario:
Several passengers on a chartered boat were drinking and making lewd and unwanted physical advances towards other passengers. The boat staff was alerted to the situation, but did nothing to approach the men causing the problem, simply told the women to ‘stay away’ from the men. On a boat, the options for ‘avoiding’ were slim, and the behavior continued.

Does the charter service hold any accountability for the events, and are they required to provide a refund to the guests who were the target of the drunken advances?

When presented with the complaint, the owner said that the staff should have been told (which they were) and that regardless, they have a clause in their terms of service ‘protecting’ them from any liability.

Is a clause in their tos a protection for them from having to ensure the safety of their guests?

It was not ‘unwanted cat calls’ it was drunken men making sexual advances, suggestions, and physically grabbing the arm of several women on board.

The staff was notified, and the behavior continued.

In that situation, several of us were afraid, and did not feel safe. It was not being annoyed by some jerk, it was not that trivial.

I feel if the staff would have said something to them, the behavior may have been curbed, if they knew the staff wasn’t going to tolerate it.

I’m doing swim lessons for 7 & 8 year olds and besides learning basic swimming and the 4 strokes, i’d like to include water safety tips in my lessons. The thing is I want these kids safe in all types of weather, so I’d like to teach things like, what to do if they fall off a boat, or what if they get swept away by a raging river (things that they will almost never have to deal with, but are good to know just in case). I rent my home, it is a side-by-side duplex. When I moved in a year ago, my landlord claimed she’d fix a number of things, including one big thing that is illegal to not fix (putting railings on our basement steps). She has not done anything about any of the improvements promised. My cousin (a lawyer) came over to visit one day and found several other things she needs to fix. We’ve had a fine relationship with the landlord in the last year and we don’t want to rock the boat, but we think it’s wrong for her to have forgotten for a year to fix these things. A few months ago, she called us to say that someone came to inspect the outside of the house (an insurance person? a city person? i don’t know) and that they ordered her to put a safety railing on the outside steps and that if someone was looming around measuring, etc, not to freak out. We’ve seen nothing happen from this either.
I want someone to come inspect the home and tell her what she is ordered to fix. Who would I contact?
